Red Squirrels Northern England is a project partnership between the Northern Wildlife Trusts, Forestry Commission, Red Squirrel Survival Trust and Natural England. Crucially, we also work with a network of community red squirrel groups across northern England who work under the collective banner of Northern Red Squirrels.
We are the lead organisation working to protect red squirrels in the northern counties of Northumberland, Cumbria, North Yorkshire, Lancashire, Merseyside, Tyne & Wear and County Durham, where reds can still be found in the wild.
The project does this by:
↳ Leading networks of grey squirrel management and red and grey squirrel monitoring programmes.
↳ Investing in and empowering local community-led conservation.
↳ Collaborating with partners to share knowledge and develop new approaches to conserving reds.
